APPNA was incorporated in 1977 by a small group of physicians in Dearborn, MI. In 1986, the headquarters of the association was moved to Chicago. Since then, the Michigan chapter of APPNA has provided a platform for Pakistan physicians residing in Michigan to come together and serve the community. With the help of our members who are experts in varied field, we have provided young physicians opportunities to expand their horizons and explore the diverse field of healthcare. In addition, the organization has hosted events that allow younger students to explore the various aspects of the healthcare field. Moreover, we have supported many humanitarian efforts in our communities by organizing food and clothing drives, and hosting health clinics.
My name is Naushad Pervez and I am honored to serve as this year’s President for APPNA Michigan. After graduating from Sindh Jinnah Medical University, I completed my residency at UMDNJ—Newark. I continued my training in Nephrology with a fellowship at SUNY Downstate Medical Center. Currently, I serve as Chief of Medicine at Beaumont Taylor. I am also Chief of Nephrology and the Chief of Pharmacy and Therapeutics at Beaumont Wayne.
As an active member of APPNA MI, I have worked with many community groups to promote efforts in healthcare, research, education, and humanitarian activities. I have been an integral part of establishing a scholarship fund for promising students who need help to live up to their potentials. I am also working with our members to ameliorate the conditions of APPNA House in Michigan. I work closely with the students to ensure that they have tools they need to be successful as they pursue their career goals.
My goal as president of APPNA MI is to continue both educational and charitable efforts. I am currently working on a project which aims to provide necessary school supplies to students of low income communities of Michigan. I aspire to elevate the status of this organization by creating bridges between professionals and the local community, thereby promoting a legacy that past and future generations can cherish.
